Melbourne Royal Show 2022

Royal Melbourne Show 2022

After two years of planning, the 2022 Melbourne Royal Show opened on Thursday, September 22nd, and ran for the usual 11 days, closing on Sunday, October 2nd.

The show drew a record-breaking crowd of over 500,000 visitors. Staff on the Petcover stand met a lot of visiting pet owners, breeders, exhibitors and animal lovers, answering lots of questions about pet insurance and the extensive cover we provide to our pet parents.

This year, Petcover was a proud sponsor of three events at the show; The Melbourne All Breeds Championship Show – General Specials Day, the FEI World Cup Show Jumping Qualifying Event, and the Melbourne Royal Poultry Competition.

With 3,700 entries in the All Breeds, 755 poultry entries, and 2,300 equine entries, each event and competition were well received.

The weather was generally pleasant, encouraging even more visitors, there were a few days with heavy rain, which impacted crowd numbers and affected certain show and event areas, such as the Horse Arena, but it did not dampen the spirit of the show.

Petcover, as part of our exotic pet insurance cover, sponsored the poultry competition; a fantastic 77 poultry exhibitors showed their chickens, turkeys, geese, and ducks in all shapes and sizes!

Petcover was pleased to provide prizes and to sponsor five classes in the poultry competition to the following winners:

Supreme Champion in Show – Owner T.J. & D.M. Dent – Black Rosecomb Cockerel
Reserve Supreme Champion in Show – Owner Ducknuts Waterfowl – Young White Muscovy Duck
Grand Champion Pair in Show – Owner Mr Michael & Mrs Kathy Holmes – Bantam Duck Pair
Grand Champion Junior Classes – Owner Pyper Jennings/ Pekin Duck
Reserve Grand Champion Junior Classes – Owner Darcy MacKay: Indian Runner Duck

The All-Breeds General Specials Day was also sponsored and prized by Petcover. Many beautiful entrants and competitors competed in the ring for the chance to win.

Congratulations to the following competitors and winners:

Best in Show – Smiling Snowball Luminous Pandora (Samoyed) and owner Miss Y Chen
Best Puppy in Show – Taejaan Rolling in the deep (Whippet) ad owner Miss S Turay and Mrs N Rule-Steel
Best Baby Puppy in Show – Lambda All A Buzz (Boxer) and owner L Bleakley and A Fry
Best Brace in Show – Breed: Keeshond – Bred by Ray, Marilyn and Tracey Parker

Unfortunately, the FEI World Show Jumping event was cancelled due to rain and ground conditions.

We were thrilled to see the Obedience, Agility, and Jumping happening in the outside ring, as well as all the action in the judging rings in and around the pavilion.

Boxers, Beagles, Danes, Poodles, Schipperke, Samoyed, and Whippets were among the breeds represented. Short and long coats, fluffy and wiry coats. All the magnificent breeds paraded and looked their best.

Congratulations to the Pet Hamper winner: C. Miller from Victoria

That’s a wrap for 2022, here’s a few snippets from our time at the show.
