We will cover illnesses for which a vaccine is available (i.e. kennel cough, parvo virus, herpes virus or leptospirosis), providing your pet has been vaccinated and that the vaccination is current.

Yes, we will cover the costs of hereditary and congenital disorders, providing the pet was not showing clinical signs of the condition before cover has started or within the 14 or 28 day waiting period and it is not excluded in your policy documentation or certificate of Insurance.

Providing the cancer is not a pre-existing condition or an exclusion on your policy, we will cover the costs of the treatment of cancer, such as chemotherapy. We do not cover the costs of transplant surgery or stem cell treatments.

No, insurance is for the unknown and unforeseen; no insurance company will provide cover for something that has already occurred before taking out cover. Any accident, injury or illness which has already happened or is showing clinical signs before cover has started, is classed as pre-existing. Any illnesses that occurs in the first 14 or 28 day days of cover (waiting period), or any pre-existing conditions are also not covered. If your pet was injured or ill at any time before your insurance starts, we won’t cover any costs relating to that injury or illness. This is regardless of whether or not we place any exclusions for the injury or illness in your certificate of insurance.

Yes, if you chose a plan that includes alternative treatment methods. The treatment has to be referred and endorsed by your vet and deemed necessary to treat an injury and/or illness. Other alternative treatments and therapies covered are acupuncture, homeopathy, herbal medicine, chiropractic manipulation, osteopathy and hydrotherapy for up to 10 sessions in total per period of insurance, up to the annual maximum benefit of your selected plan if they are to treat an injury or illness.

Yes, we will cover the cost even if a diagnosis is not made.

Yes, your pet will be covered anywhere within Germany and for up to 90 days for all journeys in the period of insurance. This includes the duration of your holiday or business trip and any travel in and between Germany and an agreed country and return journey home.

Petcover provides peace of mind that your pet will have access to very best veterinary attention should an unexpected injury or illness happen, that you otherwise would not be able to budget for. Routine, preventative or elective care of your pet, such as vaccinations, worming or de-sexing can be budgeted for. This is similar to how your car insurance as it generally does not cover routine service, tyre care or registration fees. We do however offer an optional Day to Day Benefit that covers routine treatments and procedures such as vaccinations, de-sexing or tick and flea treatment and that you can add to some of our plans if you would like that additional peace of mind.

Yes, we work with insurance providers that will cover the costs of treatment of a behavioural condition your vet has diagnosed. Our Superior Range, Mid-Range and Economy Plans offer this benefit inclusive or as an optional extra.

Yes, our Mid-Range Plans cover for the treatment of tick-borne diseases and it is not limited to a set number of incidents per year.

We offer lifetime insurance for your pet on most of our policies, providing there is no break in cover. Please refer to your product table or your certificate of insurance. If you have a lifetime cover, the number of times you can claim for the same illness is unlimited. So you can give your animal the very best in veterinary care regardless of how much it costs. However, the amount for which you can claim in any one year is capped on an annual basis to the maximum benefit amount stated in your policy and a fixed excess will apply to any claims made. With our lifetime policies, the excess is payable per unrelated condition (illness), per policy year. Remember, with a genuine lifetime plan, you get what you pay for – a comprehensive pet insurance policy that will cover your pet’s conditions for life!

With every policy you sign up for, you must take reasonable precautions to maintain your pet’s health and to prevent any illness, injury or loss. This means you must arrange and pay for them to have an annual dental examination and general check-up (including vaccinations) and follow any veterinary advice given by a vet in order to prevent oral disease. By continuing with these regular check-ups, this shows us that you have played your part in caring for your pet, so we can play ours. If you fail to have a dental check and follow any veterinary advice given at the time it may affect a claim for a dental-related condition. The only exemption are some of the exotic species.

Claim

We do not want to do anything to discourage customers from getting their pet treated when it is unwell or injured. For this reason, we do not have a no claims discount, as it may encourage people not to seek veterinary treatment for fear of losing any potential discount.

We will pay the claim directly into your bank account. If you require a different method of payment, please contact us.

We would like you to submit your claim as soon as your pet has been treated. However, you are required to submit a claim within 12 months of your vet’s invoice date for the relevant accident, injury or illness treatment.

Yes, as long as they are happy to accept payment in this way. We can’t direct any veterinarian to accept a payment on your behalf, so you must make sure they complete and sign the direct payment section on the claim form.

You are covered for treatment costs for veterinary fees attributed to accidents, injuries or illnesses which may happen to your pet, providing the condition did not happen before your cover started. Cover for injuries and accidents starts immediately on sign up and illness cover begins after the 14 or 28 day waiting period

It’s your choice whether or not to vaccinate your pet, but if they get an illness for which a vaccine is available and they aren’t vaccinated, you will not be able to claim for the cost of the treatment. However, you will still be able to claim for any other illness.
